If you click the Download your tree button and the page says the tree is generating for more than ten minutes, refresh the page and click the button again. It's not currently possible to merge trees on Ancestry®, but these tips may help. The new tree will now appear in your Trees tab.Check the box accepting the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Statement and click Upload.If the tree will be public, the description will be public. In public family trees, all information is viewable and searchable except for information about living people.

By default, all trees are listed as public.

To make your tree private, uncheck Make my family tree public.

Enter a name for your tree in the Name your family tree field.

Select the GEDCOM file you want to upload and click Open.

On the Upload a Family Tree page, click Choose File or Browse.

At the bottom of the page, click Upload a GEDCOM file.

From any page on Ancestry, click the Trees tab and select Create & Manage Trees.

If you select Desktop as the location, the file will save to the main screen of your computer.

In the window that appears, choose a location on your computer and click Save.

In the drop-down menu from right-clicking, select Save as, Save target as, or Save link as.

When it stops spinning and turns green, right-click (Mac: Ctrl+ click) on the Download Your GEDCOM File button that appears.

The button will begin spinning and say Generating a GEDCOM file.

On the right side of the Tree Settings page, click Export tree.

From the tree, click the tree name menu in the top-left corner and select Tree Settings.

From any page on Ancestry, click the Trees tab and select a tree.

In order to open a GEDCOM file on your computer, you'll need software that reads GEDCOM files.

Vital information, notes, and sources are usually retained after conversion. To upload a GEDCOM file to Ancestry, your file must be 500 MB or smaller. GEDCOM files are text-only pictures, charts, books, and similar items from an original file are not included in a GEDCOM. GEDCOM is a universally-accepted file format for family tree files. You don't need a membership to upload or download your tree. Only the owner of a family tree can create and download the tree. Ancestry® uses GEDCOM ( Genealogical Data Communications) files to download and upload family trees.
